Spellebration Rules

The judges will have a list of the spelling bee words which they will read in the order given to them. The judge will read the word to be spelled.

Each group will compete in three rounds. Middle School will begin with their three rounds. High School will compete once the Middle School Winners are announced.

If there are no clear 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place winners, the competition will go into final death*.

The participants can request to hear the word up to three times. They can request the definition, and how to use it in a sentence. The participants cannot ask any more questions about the word. If they want, participants can pass or they can make their best spelling attempt. If they pass on the word, or it is spelled incorrectly, they must return to their group and are no longer competing.

Words must be spelled in a “state-spell-state” format. Spellers will state the word they’re assigned, spell it, then state the word when they have completed their spelling.

Judges will cross out the words from their word list once the word is no longer in play.

In the third round, the judges will state the definition of a word and ask for the word’s spelling. The contestant will still be expected to “state-spell-state” their word.

Contestants will receive spelling bee tags to wear during the competition, representing their group.

The Spelling Bee will be held on July 25th at 10am at the Delray Beach Public Library

100 W. Atlantic Avenue

Delray Beach, FL 33444

All participants are expected to arrive by 9am. Breakfast and lunch will be served.

Spelling Bee Practices will be held weekly at the Delray Beach Public Library.

*Final Death round will consist of Spelling Bee words that are not included on the list.
