Harriet (2019)
Harriet is a biopic of renowned abolitionist hero, Harriet Tubman.
An escaped slave herself, Tubman implemented 13 rescue missions that brought 70 slaves to Northern freedom, using a network of abolitionist safe houses which became known as the Underground Railroad. This film tells her story in broad strokes and dramatic highlights.
The film is directed by Kasi Lemmons, one of the best known and highly regarded of the slowly growing number of black, female directors; and stars Cynthio Erivo, who brings a wounded humanity and righteous anger to the role. Overall, a lively and sincere effort to tell this monumental, American story. Check it out today!
