Reading Behind the Words: Understanding the Short Story

Course Instructor: Winston Aarons

Tuesdays, March 7, 14, 21 and 28 @ 2-3:30 pm

Cost: $60

Back by popular demand! Winston Aarons returns to the Lifelong Learning Institute (LLI) to offer his short story course. The basic elements of a short story are setting, character, plot, conflict and theme. Recognizing how each of these elements affects a story helps the reader understand the structure and meaning of a short story. Participants will read selected short stories and through the close analysis of each work, acquire the skills needed to understand and interpret not only the short story but longer works of fiction.

Instructor Bio:

Winston Aarons has a Master of Fine Arts degree in writing from Sarah Lawrence College. He has taught courses in English and writing at Lynn University for many years and was the Director of its Honors Program. He has also taught Contemporary Literature at Palm Beach State College while pursuing his writing career.
