Join Palm Beach Opera’s third annual summer celebration of the power of opera! Sharpen your active listening through lively discussion and games as we explore the power of storytelling through music. Connect with opera buffs and opera newcomers through this program. Registration required for all programs. All programs are registered for on an individual basis.

Tuesday, June 17 @3PM – Crazy Ladies in White Nighties: Opera’s Greatest Mad Scenes – When her character goes crazy, a soprano gets to shine. Join us to discuss the theatrical and technical virtuosity in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor, Tchaikovsky’s Hamlet, and Strauss’s Elektra.

Tuesday, July 22 @3PM – Just Along for the Ride: Opera’s Greatest Sidekicks – Meet the best buddies who encourage, cheer on, and sometimes betray opera’s principal characters. From Leporello in Mozart’s Don Giovanni, to Sancho Panza in Massenet’s Don Quichotte, to Zurga in Bizet’s The Pearl Fishers, opera’s sidekicks will get the spotlight in this discussion.

Tuesday, August 19 @3PM – It’s All Greek to Me: Mythology in Opera – Mischievous gods, love-struck men, and a whole lot of chaos! Greek Mythology dominated early opera and is still a popular source for stories today. Discover why myths make ideal operatic topics by hearing excerpts Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo, Henry Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, and Mozart’s Idomeneo.

Tuesday, September 16 @3PM Audience’s Choice – Come to the first three club meetings to vote for the final topic for the summer! Possibilities include composers’ first operas, trouser roles and the women who sing them, and satires of opera.
