Founded in 1913 by the Ladies Improvement Association, the Delray Beach Public Library serves as a key cultural, educational, and resource center for Delray Beach and surrounding communities. In 1939 the Library Association was formed as a not-for-profit corporation. Library patrons receive free library service through a successful public/private partnership between the City of Delray Beach and the Library Association. The City of Delray Beach and the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) provide a large percentage of the annual operating budget and the Library Association and its members raise capital and special project funds. Association members and library contributors made the construction of the current library building and its furnishings and technology possible.

Members of the Delray Beach Public Library Association recognize the importance of reading and lifelong learning and are dedicated to the improvement of their public library in Delray Beach. Membership in the Delray Beach Public Library Association, Inc. is an excellent way to ensure quality library services for the community.
